Bringing a Case 420b Backhoe Back to Life

When a friend asked for my help troubleshooting their Case 420B backhoe that wouldn't start, we suspected the problem was either the spark plugs or the distributor. It turned out to be the latter – upon further examination, we found a damaged felt spacer and a bent crown-shaped washer beneath the plastic rotor. Flattening the washer was all it took to get the machine running again. It just goes to show that sometimes the simplest things can cause the biggest problems. Don't forget to check the distributor when troubleshooting your machinery!
